Welcome to WASQUEHAL

Wasquehal, a town awarded 4-flower status in the France-in-Bloom competition, excels also in its dynamic approach to sporting, cultural, economic and social matters and also in the quality of life fostered by its preservation of the human dimension in a large metropolis. Bordered by the waters of the Marque and Roubaix canals with their plant, animal and bird life, the town is a favoured venue for angling and walking. It also has numerous sporting facilities such as the Olympic-sized ice-rink, a swimming pool complex and the regional dojo centre. Although the town cannot boast about the cultural and architectural heritage from the past, tourist structures have now been put in place, offering recreational and cultural activities: the Dehaudt farm and games area, the “Auto-Pompe” fire-fighters museum, the unique Greater Lille circus complex “La Gardine” and the church of Saint Nicolas famous for its exceptionally fine organ. Moreover, the town stages numerous events, the most well-known of which are the old weapons, gastronomy, books, fossils and minerals fair and the festival celebrating its various mill-races. Already easily accessible by motorways and rapid transit highways and served by high-speed trains, trams and buses, Wasquehal is now complementing its transport network with the Metro. This eminently visitable place, Wasquehal, hosted for the fifth time, on 6th July 2004, one of the stages of the Tour de France.
