Bouvines
The place of the first French Victory.
In the XIXth century church of St-Pierre in Bouvines, 21 stained-glass windows, each eight metres high, tell the story of the celebrated battle fought on Sunday 27th July 1214. On that day, on the plain between Cysoing and Gruson, Philippe-Auguste faced the combined forces of the Count of Flanders, the German Emperor and the English.
Bouvines lies 6 km south-east of Villeneuve d’Ascq.
Autoroute, ‘cité scientifique’ exit, then the road for Cysoing.
